The Mountain Road
Local musician and writer, Julie O' celebrates her Scottish roots and Irish sensibilities with The Mountain Road - real Irish music radio in the Santa Cruz Mountains every Monday evening from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm on KBCZ 90.1 FM and streaming worldwide at kbcz.org. Steeped in the Irish music tradition, Julie plays hammered dulcimer and fiddle at traditional Irish seisiuns (Irish music jams) throughout Santa Cruz and the Bay Area and heads up The Crooked Road Ceili Band - the word "ceili" (pronounced "kay-lee") being the Irish word for "party!"
Majoring in radio broadcasting at San Jose State University and host and program manager of the overnight death metal show "Brain Pain" on SJSU's KSJS, Julie spent time as a professional on-air personality at KMBY in Monterey and KRQC in Salinas.
The Mountain Road real Irish music radio features the fast and the furious, the sweet and sultry; modern compositions from inspired and upcoming artists to pure-drop trad and the keepers of the old style. Highlighting local California artists and those most famous in the traditional Irish music genre from County Kerry to County Donegal and every corner of the Celtic lands that stir the soul and inspire fantastical imagination.
With The Mountain Road, Julie has found a way to give back to the wonderful small-town mountain community of Boulder Creek where she's made her home. When not broadcasting tasty Irish tunes over the air on KBCZ, Julie can be found slaving over a hot laptop as Managing Editor of the Santa Cruz Mountain Bulletin, snapping snaps of the local scene to post on Facebook, and otherwise loving life in the San Lorenzo Valley.
